Important Information Regarding Social Media Posts (“School Wars”)

Dear Parent/Carer,

We have been made aware of further social media posts circulating regarding so-called “School Wars”, where various schools are being named for organised “meets” and young people are being encouraged to fight and, in some cases, bring weapons.

At this time, the sixth form has not been mentioned or directly linked to any of these posts. However, we feel it is important to make you aware of the situation so that we can work together to keep all students safe.

The police have been informed of potential High Street locations across several boroughs (the latest being Bromley) that are being circulated online as gathering points on Friday 27th February. Police have confirmed that a full policing plan is in place to address any potential disorder and to deal with individuals involved.

Police have advised the following:

  • Students should not attend any location circulated in connection with “School Wars”, particularly High Streets and large open spaces.
  • Individuals who attend with the intention of committing crime or disorder are liable to arrest.
  • Dispersal powers will be used where appropriate; failure to comply may result in arrest.
  • Police will work in partnership with schools to identify individuals involved in any criminal activity.
  • Schools will be informed of any student involvement, and separate school sanctions may apply.
  • Parents/carers are strongly encouraged to know where their child is after school and ensure they go straight home rather than loitering in High Streets or open public spaces.

Although the sixth form has not been named, we are sharing this information proactively in the interest of safeguarding.

In addition as a precautionary measure we will be releasing the sixth form students at 2.05pm today in order for them to get home as quickly as possible and avoid any disruption that may occur with transport with a heightened police presence. All Aspire students will leave at 1.00pm. GAIN and SOAR students will be released at 1.55pm. Students are to go straight home please and not loiter on the high street.

Andrew Barr, Principal
