“My learning journey has been challenging. However, with the right support, I have been able to achieve my goals in a short amount of time.”

Before coming to Harris Aspire, I was in a mainstream school. I struggled to communicate. As as result, I was always in isolation which caused a lot of anxiety. People labelled me as having 'anger issues' and 'being naughty'. I felt they did not like me and that I was being misunderstood. I wished they had realised that there was more to me than my behaviours.

A lot changed when I started attending Harris Aspire. The staff did not give up straight away and gave me strategies to help me problem solve and regulate myself. They spent more time trying to understand my difficulties. Overall, I received more support. This has helped me to understand myself and what do do if I feel like I am getting overwhelmed. For example I am more resilient. I can not stay in a classroom for longer than 5 minutes without feeling like I need to leave.

In the future, I would like to get better at communicating and working on reducing my anxiety. I feel Harris Aspire has helped me develop as a person and has helped me to understand myself and others.
