Rewards & Recognition

A positive rewards philosophy

TheatreA positive rewards philosophy is essential to encouraging students to work hard and achieve beyond expectations. Having a reward system which allows for more ‘instant’ acknowledgement offers the Academy more opportunities to celebrate positive behaviour which will encourage good habits and excellent attainment.

The Academy operates a balancing point award system; positive behaviour is recognised by the allocation of positive points, whilst behaviour that does not meet basic Academy expectations is recognised by the deduction of points.

Students can manage their behaviour to ensure that they can maintain the high standards expected by the Academy.

How does the system work?

  • The behaviour system starts on a Monday and concludes on a Friday.
  • Positive and negative points linked to punctuality are automatically given and do not need to be inputted by staff.
  • Every Monday, students are reset to zero points.
  • At the start of the week, the points score accumulated for the previous week is shared by tutors and displayed on the behaviour board with the outcome (rewards or sanctions)
  • Students have regular opportunities in tutor sessions to review points accrued to enable them to improve behaviour to attain a higher reward or avoid a sanction

This system is highly effective. It encourages and rewards positive behaviours, yet at the same time creates a fast refresh and restart process once the behaviour has been addressed.

This additional flexibility is crucial to support students reengage with their education and increasingly improve their learning habits.
