From Alternative Provision to Sixth Form Success — A Real Pathway

Haa4

Harris Aspire Academy and Harris Professional Skills Sixth Form share the same building. For Aspire students, it means alternative provision is not a dead end; it’s a genuine route into Sixth Form and beyond. Students who join us through Harris Aspire are supported, and given every chance to thrive and many go on to progress straight into Level 3 study at HPS6F, carrying that same support with them every step of the way. The case studies below show exactly what that looks like in practice. Real students, real progress, real opportunities at the end of Level 3.

Case Study 1 – Aspire Student Progression to Level 3 Animal Management at Capel Manor College

This Aspire student completed their GCSE studies achieving a strong set of results, including:

  • Grade 5 in Maths and English
  • Grade 5-5 in Combined Science
  • Grade 6 in Art and Design

These results demonstrated a solid academic foundation, particularly in subjects requiring analytical and scientific thinking. Based on their overall attainment and interest in science, the student was offered and accepted a place on a Level 3 Science programme at Harris Professional Skills 6th Form. Their achievement of a Grade 6 and several Grade 5s showed they had the capability to cope with the increased academic demands of a Level 3 qualification.

Case Study 2 – Aspire Student Progression to Childcare at South Thames College

The student achieved the following GCSE results:

  • Grade 5 in Mathematics and English
  • Grade 4 in Citizenship
  • 4-4 in Combined Science

These results demonstrated that the student had achieved a solid standard in the core subjects of English and Mathematics, providing a strong basis for further study. The student had a clear interest in working with children and supporting their development. Following GCSEs, they successfully progressed to college to study a Childcare qualification.

Case Study 3 – Previous Aspire Student, now Sixth Form Level 3 Applied Science

The Aspire student was able to enrol on the Level 3 Science programme at Harris Professional Skills 6th Form and is currently finishing his first year on the course with the aspirations of progressing to higher education and pursuing a career in a science-related field. Throughout the course so far, the student demonstrated a positive attitude towards learning and engaged well with both practical and theoretical aspects of the programme.
